I recently purchased this Danish spoon online. The description says it's Danish (Copenhagen), but I have no experience with old Danish silver. I have purchased more recent Danish pieces that say sterling on the item; however, this is the first one that I've encountered that has the 3 towers. I believe the 3 towers are like the passant for British silver, based on my search online. There's also a mark on there that looks like "sTr", which could stand for sterling, but I'm not sure. Could also be Thor's Hammer.

Anyways, a couple of questions I was hoping to get some help on:

• Is this authentic Danish silver?
• Is this sterling, i.e. 92.5%? I understand from my research that Danish silver can have a lower silver content, like 83% or something.

The first mark on the left is "Thor's hammer" with letters DA for Dansk Arbedje, meaning Danish Product.This mark is the sign of private Danish Trade Promotion Association "Landsforeningen Dansk Arbejde" . It was used since 1908 on both silver and silverplate.

From left to right:
The first mark alrady explaained.
The second mark is assayer JS for Johannes Siggaard 1932 - 1966.
The third mark is Three Tower Mark, national mark of Denmark since 1893.
There are two digits just below towers, too small to read in the image but you can clean the mark and decipher them: they are the year of production (e.g. if 22 then it was made in 1922).
The fourth mark L within G is the maker:Grann & Laglye in Copenhagen.

Wow, thanks, all! This is great info. Based on the links that AG2012 provided, can I safely assume that this is at least 82.6% silver, since there is the mark of 3 towers, but no purity mark?

I'll see if I can provide a better image of the 3 towers.

The tree towers mark is the Danish silver fineness mark. No need for any other mark (Two towers is the mark for Danish plate)!
