Interesting, I have a spoon marked in the same way but no idea where it comes from yet? Mine is 10loth and dated 1863 by maker IFS. I will watch this post with interest!

Hi,
Being 13-1/4 Lodigt 828/1000 the spoon was most likely made in Norway.Since 1608 the purity was set at 13 1/2 Lod 843/1000 but a bit lower 13 1/4 Lod. was allowed in 1800s.

We have problems here. Are they no other marks on the spoon? You see the town mark is missing. Without the town mark, it is close to impossible to say who or where from it might be. Anyway, your spoon is most likely from Norway.

Open a new thread and show the object and its marks. I don't believe in 10loth. That would be an illegal fineness in Norway and in many other countries too. It is a very low fineness because 10 loth is only about 625/1000 depending on its origin. Is there a town mark on your object? Otherwise we have the same problem here as mentioned above.

In regard of 10 Loth, it was allowed in Denmark after 1813 due to economic difficulties,particularly in smaller towns and on condition 10 Loth was clearly marked as such.

Yes you are right. 10 loth was allowed in Denmark, sorry that I oversaw it.

I took a look at the link, but I answer here. We have the maker. IFS is Johan Fredrik Schytte, active from 1795-1824 when he died in the town of Odense.

Absolutely Norway- Pattern with the shell is very typical norvay. 1852 is year of manufacture 131/4 is lødighed and IM could be Jacob Andreas Mordt he was born 1796 and is oldermann 1828-32 he dies in 1854. He worked in Christiani today Oslo.

But I am not sure - did he work as late as 1852? dont know. And the IM is not a complete match. That is not a must as not all hallmarks are registred in the books. But I would guess that it is him.
