Russian Baltic Cup ?

Post by joho »

Hi All - can anyone help to identify this small cup. It is on a spreading circular foot and has a bulbous body. The wide rim has six sides. Cast scroll handle. Chased floral and foliate decoration. It is hallmarked to the base twice with a scroll S with 3 dots on either side, and twice with a building or structure such as a bridge? I believe these cups were typical of Russia or the Baltic areas. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks Joho.

No this russian vodka cup is actually a cream mug from Denmark. Part of a sugar and cream set made by Fritz Albertus 1877 to approx 1955.

the s mark - one variant in Bøje is turned the wrong way. But this is only one of many. That S is proberly by Vilhelm Berg 1857 to 1937. Maker of silver to the trade. He was making silver - the next sale adds some age to his works.

The marks of Fritz Albertus are many - only some of them i Bøje. And that marks at this item is not among.
However - I have seen this set of sugar bowl and cream mug for sale a few times. And picture is also in the Bøje book.
So I have no doubht that this is one of his.
Also take into account that marks are strange.
