German, Danish (?) Casket.

Anyone seen maker's mark "MS". There is a Mathias Slim in Copenhagen with almost identical mark, but I think he is too early (late 1600s)

Denmark has very accurate and elaborate dating and hallmarking system, being one of the best in the world, and one cannot expect Danish silver with only MS. Marks are sometimes hidden in very unusual places (but not in Danish silver, though). Without additional marks there is but very little probability to identify this particular piece of silver.

Thank you AG2012!

?? I have over 100 items, mostly vinaigrettes (hovedvandsaeg) from south Denmark, only hallmarked with initials of the maker. Yes in Copenhagen the town mark was used almost on all items made, but not in the provinces. Dating?? You very seldom se dating or town mark on 17th c - 18th c Danish silver. Some maker's had the year in the maker's mark, but that is rare.

Best,
Thomas
