Swedish Candlesticks

Postby davidbruce » Fri Apr 03, 2015 6:57 pm

We have two candlesticks in the family for generations. Known to be from Sweden, but not much else. In addtion to the hallmarks below, there's a "Y3" in script, presumably a date code for 1829. Any more info would be appreciated.

Yes your candlesticks are from Sweden. They are made by Jonas Lindberg (I·L) active 1817-1844 in Stockholm (mid mark, head of crowned St Erik, Stockholm's saint and as well town crest) The last mark the three crowns also called "cat's paw" guarantees the silver fineness to min. 830/1000 and Y3 (not showed) is 1829. The mid mark is upside down for an unknown reason.
