Carl Johan Kling 1872 Gavle?

Postby WarrenKundis » Sat Aug 16, 2014 11:40 am

Using a previous post on 925, images no longer available unfortunately, have identified this 5.250" (13.335cm) spoon marked CJK as Carl Johan Kling. Swedish guarantee mark, G in oval as Gavle Sweden, and S5 for 1872. Master from 1857-1894. Your thoughts and comments appreciated as always.

Not much to add. The pattern is called "Gammal Fransk" also known as "Palmes Suedois"- This pattern goes back to the 18th century.
CJK was born 3.2.1826 in Trosa and died 30.6.1894 in Gavle. He worked as journeyman in Uppsala 1853-1855 . Became master in Stockholm 19.7.1847 and moved in September 1857 to Gävle. A rather common spoon.

Thank you so much for filling in the blanks. Every new spoon has it's own challenges, was able to identify the city mark and date letter correctly before finding the link here on 925. And yes have seen Gammal Fransk here in Illinois but in most cases it's alpaca. Has remained popular for a very long time
