Danish hovedvandsæg

Postby Hose_dk » Thu Apr 11, 2013 2:46 pm

I have bought this nice hovedvandsæg. It is guilded on the inside and has remains on the outside. The outside gold has been worn off during time..

It is made by Carl Hoose - silversmith in Nibe Denmark mentioned 1743 when he complain to the tax authorities saying that he is poor. In 1749 he dies and his vidow do not continue the business.
What makes it special ? Well look at my alias. When I go 6 generations back in time I reach Poul Hose born approximately 1727. Poul Hose had own business as Carpenter and so had his children and granchildren for generations untill my grandfather.
Poul Hose is either son of Carl Hoose or Carl Hoose is his uncle - dont know for sure. But city is so small that I go for father.
By this - I have bought the hovedvandsæg (my only one) in december 2012. Thereby bringing it back to the Family.

Hi Hose -

that´s what I like most with old silver - there is always an interesting story behind it. But too often you never get notice of it.
Thanks for sharing!

Regards
Zolotnik
