Sauce ladle Sweden 1839?

Postby silverfan » Thu Feb 21, 2013 11:27 am

Hello,
I got the below fotographed ladle, which I suppose to be made in 1839 (I 4). I cannot decipher the town mark. Does anybody know that? Any help appreciated.

The ID of the maker would be very nice too.

Your ladle is made by Otto Wilhelm Kjellberg (OWK) 1836-1876 in Västerås in Sweden in 1839. He was born 1813 in Bettna, became master in 2.6.1836 in Arboga and died 1876.

The town mark is a stylized capital A that stands for Västerås former name Västra Aros/Arosia. Another source says that the "A" is actually an "M" symbolizing the Mariamonogram....but?

Sorry again. I forgot to tell that the name of the pattern is usually called "Palmes Swedoise" but in France they call it "The Swedish Pattern". However, the Swedes call it "Gammal fransk" meaning "Old French".
