i found some nice, silver cups. i need help with identification. i got some info on the cup with the "JS" mark which should stand for Johannes Siggaard, right? but the cup is signed, "P Hertz" which is Peter Hertz, correct?
the other cups are a mystery.

Hi Tim!
Johannes Siggaard (or Jens Sigsgaard) was the assay maker and Peter Hertz was the famous Danish silversmith.
He was born in 1811, became a certified maker in 1834, and died in 1885. His successors continued his work and
"P.Hertz" company are working now. If you read in Danish - see here:

There is no "or" ! The guardian is unambiguously Johannes Siggaard.
The Dane Jens Sigsgaard 1910-1991 was a writer and psychologist but never a guardian i.e. assayer. It is really amazing that such a mix has been made and irrespective of this being corrected one time after another, the same fault pops up regularly and not only on sites like this but also in the literature.
