8 inch that should be 20 cm - it is a normal soup spoon. Danish is very likely. Mark however is not to identify. Looks like a T, but something else in the halmark.
Try to read what the mark says - or take more pictures from different angles. The we might be able to read mark.
The inscription Betstet ???? try to get an idea of what it says?

Thank you for your quick response. The inscription is very hard to read, it looks like the last three words are " J'en in Betstet". Is there a translation and do you think that is a date of 1746 at the end. I have taken a close up of the mark, hope this helps. Thank you very much for your assistance.

Hi, "Betstet" is probably that of the parish of Bedsted in southern Jutland. It is a typical southern Jutish spoon-type of the 18th century, anyway. Have you any relatives from that part of Denmark?

I think that we shall turn the photo 45 grades.

Then it could be city mark for Althona. Part of Denmark up to 1864.

Thank you both very much! Now I know a lot more about the spoon and possible area my grandfather's family is from. To gammel2ft, still researching where family is from. I have numerous letters written in Danish from the late 1800's to go through. Again thank you both for all the information.

Hi again wkost

Looking at the hallmark again, I think I have found the maker. It seems to be Ludolph Thiesen, citizenship in Åbenrå/Aabenraa/Apenrade 1729-1760's.

Bedsted is just some 20 km due west of Åbenrå, so all in all the engraving and the hallmark seems to match each other nicely.
