Hello!
I have this salt celler which I am not sure of the contry from which it came . It is marked in 2 places. Under the foot there are English hallmarks from London 1823 which were added later to avoid paying the tax for adding additional hallmarks. The other ones are on the foot they are:
1838 , 13 1/4, FB
The mark of 13 1/4 is 13 1/4 loth?! I never came across by this hallmark. Please help.

The maker is Fredrik Julius Brink, born in Kristiania/Oslo in 1808, apprenticeship by Steinbach and Ebbesen in Copenhagen 1828-33, back in Kristiania he worked with Jacob Tostrup. Brink was a master in 1834. Before he died his business was overtaken by N. M. Thune. Brink died in 1857.

It is made in 1838 and marked 13 1/4 lot and that is about 828/1000.

Hello, I was fortunate to get a gilt bowled sauce ladle that is relatable to this old post. It is another 13&1/4 loth spoon and with presumably the date mark 1859.



It is of course by Thune and just after the death of F.J. Brink. Does this "Thune" actually have a name additional to "N.M". It is a lovely spoon though and is about 16 cms long. Was it common having a date, stamped, on earlier Norwegian silver or mainly at Oslo / Kristiania?

There are some posts relating to later work with enamelling by "Thune". I Have previously owned some of these said made spoons. Is this "family" progression or just a prestigious name carrying on?
