Dutch? silver caster spoon (2)

Postby ktiggeloven » Tue Mar 03, 2009 6:17 pm

Dear fellow members,

I have another caster spoon which came out of a Frisian estate which has only one marking on it. The marking is the makers mark HvN. I had the spoon tested and it tested as silver. Does anyone know this maker, or can anyone tell me more from where or when this spoon dates? Thanks in advance. kind regards,
Kasper

It is my qualified guess that the sugar spoon is made by Heinrich & Nielsen in Kolding, Denmark.

The company was founded in 1844 by Godtfred Christian Heinrich (born 1816, master 12. 12. 1844, died 1878) and Johan Christian Nielsen (born approx. 1815, master 25. 5. 1855, mentioned 1867, died ?).

The maker´s mark "H & N" showned in Bøje (Chr. A. Bøje, Danske Guld og Sølvmærker før 1870. Politikens Forlag 1954 pages 209-210 mark 2247 and 2253) is not an exact match but quite similar with the one on the spoon.

Hope this helps!

Best regards,
JAKJO

Thanks again JAKJO, it does indeed kind of resemble those two marks.
