Basting spoon, possibly Cape silver

Post by silvertop »

Can anyone help? - there is no category for South African silver so I have put it here in other countries - of course I might be completely wrong and it is from an entirely different part of the world. Many thanks, silvertop

Are you sure of SA. To the best of my knowledge it is Norway. Mark tradition but most off all "the shell" (pattern)
I am at the job so I cannot see if I can find the mark, but I shall look.

Not at all sure if it is SA - You may be right that it is Norwegian but I have a feeling this is early 19th century, much in the style of an English piece and perhaps by an English trained or influenced silversmith.

Thanks

My guess is Christian Børs in Bergen 1814-1859. But I cannot recognize the mark in the middle.
