Dear members,
yesterday I wanted to publish the text below.
Something happened in our world, which left me speechless.
This is an international forum.
Members from many countries share their knowledge.
They are all interested in culture and I am sure that many of them have friends in all these vulnerable areas.
f.ex. Recently I received a tip from Mart, a forum member, who is living in Novosibirsk.
Before posting my article I have a message to share with you.
Let us all think at the courageous people, who bravely endure life-threatening situations.
Russian silver item of interest
Once more Cinderella has lost a shoe!
I just found it. Shoeshine day!
The shoe appears in full shine.
Kalouga 1873–1893, PL 520
ЛВ Wasilev, Lev – 1871-1876 - PL 546
К.Д Degusar, Kirill - 1871-1883 - PL 530
12,5 cm - 41g
After polishing, my little shoe jumped to join the others.
In sequence:
ЛВС - unknown workmaster - Moscow - PL 2612
ES - Sällström, Erik Wilhelm - 1796-1848 - St. Petersburg - PL 1592 or Strand, Eric - PL 1594
ЛВС - unknown workmaster – 18?? - Moscow - PL 2612
Malcz, Karol Filip, 1827-1864, Warsav, Sreba warszawskie Museum Narodowe
ЛВ- Lev, Vasilev – 1869 - Kalouga , PL 545
ЛВ- Lev, Vasilev – Kalouga – 1876 PL 545
In imperial times these shoes were used as ashtrays, fitted with a central „cigarette-rest“ (папироса).
Geoffrey Watts (Russian Silversmiths' Hallmarks, p. 36) is the opinion, that this kind of shoe is a "spoon holder"....
Just smile!
Qrt.S wrote – 27.01.22: „FYI - Please, avoid Watts, it contains too much "mistakes" as well as misspellings!“

Re: Russian silver item of interest
No problem dear Silverstone, I was about to write that ES is hardly Erik Strand. Obviously you noted it yourself :-)))).
For the books: Erik Strand's punch ES has a dot (E.S and serif font) In addition, he also punched ЭС and ES (no serif!) Moreover, Strand was active from about 1870- ?, so....
Anyway, like also to mention that Kirill Degusar was an assayer in Kalouga 1871-1878 but not a silversmith/maker. I have told it before that an assayer doesn't make anything. He is an official guaranteeing the legal fineness only.
About Erik Wilhelm Stampel (Sällström), active 1831-1848:
He was born 2.8.1796 in Pukkila in Finland. Hes last name was actually Stampel, but when he became apprentice 1817 in StP, he changed it for some unknown reason to Sällström. He became master 1831 he died 28.12.1848. He was married 17.5.1831 to Anna Christina Thomasdotter, born 1789.
Unfortunately I have not either any trace of who ЛВС could be, sorry.
