Silversmith ID

Post by madej »

Hi.
I know that you can see only one letter but maybe you have an idea which is a silversmith. According to the city sign, it was 1882-1899. PL writes that in those years in St. Petersburg, there was a silversmith with initials on M : # 1331,1336, 1334 and 1345, but this should rather be ruled out :)
Maybe you have other ideas that the silversmith made this egg coin purse?
Regards

Hi,
The mark is not well struck (applied) so, there is double struck one letter of the initials (M).
Egg coin purse has two halves, therefore both halves should bear the same marks.
Another mark should be better, because striking both marks wrongly the same way is hardly possible.

There are not many silversmiths starting with M dot in PL working in St Petersburg at the time.
Try to eliminate one by one.
