Hi,
It`s probably not the best time to start collecting Russian cloisonné eggs.
Even reputable auction houses are not to be trusted any more, especially with online bidding.
‘’Piece holds Cyrillic Pavel Akimov Ovchinnikov workmaster marks’’.It appears as if the entire production of silversmiths working in Imperial Russia, all of a sudden, has emerged online due to the fact that every member of the family emigrating during the Revolution had an egg and a kovsh in his or her pocket.
Serious collectors (aged, unfortunately) can tell the situation e.g. forty years ago – rather scarce cloisonné.
First of all, one should get familiar with cloisonné (twisted wire cells), enameling technique, inherent beauty and harmony of design of numerous less lucrative items (match holders, cigarette cases, individual salt spoons, small vodka cups, open salts, thimbles etc). No way, one starts with jeweled Easter eggs and huge kovshi.
Regards
