Hi Ubaranda -

please clean the mark and have a close look - it could also be Ehmke, Georg Heinrich - same source, page 315.
Sometimes the marks are a little bit crippelt. The style (model, pattern) is known of both smiths - very popular at that time.

I'm a bit doubtful too and cannot recall for the moment seeing a maker's mark where the the family name initial comes first. In addition, it is as well rather uncommon that a maker uses both a Latin mark and a Cyrillic mark and the initials would be in different order in the other mark. That would really be the case! I don't believe in none of the suggested makers. I think it is an unknown maker.

Hi -
here another object in the same pattern - as already said very common at that time in Riga and elsewhere - nearly from all the makers it is known.

Sometimes the marks are misstruck, the punches are worn etc.

Thanks, but that is not what I meant. Heinrich Emke is HE as in your picture but not EH (Emke, Heinrich). The other alternative you show is GE but the Cyrillic version ЕГ, Latin EG not GE on the laddle.

Hello!
I doubt that it is Cyrillic. I don't know any Baltic maker who used Cyrillic mark at that time. I looked Leistikow and Vilite books, I looked many Livland and Kurland marks but I didn't find anything similar. I'm confused...

Letter ‚‚Г`` is very distinctive Cyrilic, not even close to any Latin letter. (Cannot be partially struck ``F`` or ``E``).

With a bit imagination you could see Cyrillic БГ . Unfortunately it doesn't help much.
