Again Morozov and his workmasters

Postby Goldstein » Sat Jan 23, 2016 7:56 am

Hello all-

in a Samorodog cigarette case I find the Morozov mark and an additional И.A. mark. Is it the short form of one of his workmasters A.I.Senpenen? Or is it someone else? Who is it?

Do you you mean the Finn Anders Johan Seppänen (please note the spelling!) born 18.4. 1822 in Rantasalmi in Finland, journeyman 1844 and master ~1870~73? He worked undoubtedly for Morozov but his punch was AC. If you check from Ivanov #3763 you will find an incorrect punch and name there (АФС/Ferdinandovitch???) and as well incorrectly spelled names (Seppyainen/Senpenen) there. I have no information that Seppänen should have used a punch as И.A.

Just noticed that you have the right looking kokoshnik hallmark 1908-1917(26) on the case. Very unlike that the mark И.A. would be Seppänen's

Seppyanen Andrei Ferdinandovich (Anders Andersovich, Senpenen A.I.)
Worked for Morozov, but his initials were АС аnd АФС
(A.Ivanov,volume II, p.110 # 3763)

Actually they are not work masters but rather subcontractors.

@AG2012
Unfortunately Ivanov shows the "marks" as letters and not pictures or sootmarks. He also takes for granted that if a master's name was "Anders Ferdinandovich Seppänen" he automatically punched AФС. That is not the case but unfortunately a common fault in Ivanov. There are also quite a lot of misspelled names in the book like these Seppyainen, Senpenen etc. Of course the transliteration doen't make it easier.

Yes,there is an obvious confusion with his full name (Ferdinandovich ?) and let alone correct Finnish spelling.
