Bear spoons for the Podstakannik please help with the maker

Postby numis.geneve » Fri Dec 26, 2014 4:58 pm

Hello everyone, merry christmas.
I did not post anything for a while, but i have bought a lot of Russian silver recently so I will post it bit by bit, especially the stuff that puzzles me.
Here I have 2 spoons, I think the quality is excellent for such i tiny thing. The hallmarks are really small and not well seen because of the bark pattern, assayer is Yakov Ljapunov in St Petersburg, but the makers marks is not as deep and hard to read, I think it is KF or IF, the second letter definety F. Any thoughts(only one in Postnikova for second letter F is Faberge, but I dont know lol?

HI numis-geneve -
first - it would help tremendously if you would post larger photos! This tiny thumbs make an identification nearly impossible. Please see how others post their photos (size!).

Your spoons are fakes, bear spoons are unknown. Fake marks for Fabergé.

Zolotnik

dear Zolotnik if these are fake I really don't mind collecting fakes then, and look forward to buying more (:
Oh yes by the way I finally saw a faberge expert about the fork In Moscow, and he did not agree with you, even provided me a photo of the same die from his collection, I'll post it sometime- continuing this discussion is pointless since I am quite stubborn and so are you(:

Hi,

I believe your kokoshnik hallmark is not how it should be, the maker’s mark dubious and I would call both marks spurious. Not the quality of Fabergé, who was, according to connoisseurs, the world's most famous goldsmith.

Hi numis-geneve -
If you are 100% sure that this spoons are authentic - then you are double lucky: you are the only known person in the world who own bear spoons from Fabergé. All the Fabergé collectors and experts will soon want to contact you and many books have to be written new. Buy more of them - eBay is full of them. Your chance to get famous.

Sorry numis-geneve but I share Oel's and Zolotnik's opinion. They are fakes. Here you have an excellent possibility to compare the kokshnik on your spoons:

I thought they are authentic but not faberge. What is interesting about the kokoshnik mark is that it varies enormously in size, so I do not believe the tiny kokoshnik mark will have exactly the same detail as the big kokoshnik on my Ljubavin creamer for example.

Hi numis-geneve -

First, one must be familiar with the various silver hallmarks. There is literature and in the forum are a lot of authentic images that help to become familiar with the matter. Only when you have mastered the basics enough, you should start with careful, inexpensive purchases. It is an illusion to find the objects of famous silversmiths in online auctions etc.. Only when you know who has what and how made you can gently moving on to expensive objects. Everything else is nonsense and only costs money - the things you buy are destined for the trash. These tips have been given often and often again , but will always be ignored. The results are evermore proudly presented. The disapointment is big when the piece turns out to be a copy. However, this is not a Fakeforum and no one wants to comment or discuss on everreturning, nonsensical fantasy fakes. So please stop posting scrap silver until you can show real Russian silver -everybody will enjoy I am sure.

Start learning now!

Zolotnik

Look I have just bought a very large lot of silver not just russian, if 2 spoons turn out to be copies I don't really care, I evaluate the work that went into making them into more than I paid. You are very provocative in your messages, keep it cool really
