Hi,
I am wondering about this silversmith..
I understand his mark was ДН in a rectangular cartouche, is this correct?

Also, are you able to provide any information on his type of work, and his styles. Where he was situated and when he worked?

I have ordered books - but they have yet to arrive. I am hoping they will arrive before Christmas but it looks like they might not.

Any information is kindly appreciated.

when I remember right I once had 2 women bracelets in enamel (small round buttonlike objects connected to another) from him, which I sold. I have no cigarette case of him in my collection.

Piette, you are neither showing a picture nor mentioning any years. I happen to look more closely to this initial ДН and found some prospects...

Thank you both for the information you have provided me with.
The original reason for my quesiton was because, I am wondering how to distinguish between the marks of Dimitri Nikolajev and D. P. Nikitin as I understand they both marked with ДН.

Am I right to gather from your information, Qrt.S, that Nikolajev only used the ДН punch in the year 1897, and that Nikitin used it from 1893-1917?

I do have a piece in mind - it is definitely a fake - but the marks look good. It is marked with the 1908-1917 kokoshnik, and with ДН in a regtangular cartouche (sorry no pictures).

What I am wondering is, if this item was real, would it be most likely by Nikitin or Nikolajev? It is a fake enamelled cigarette case.

I was just wanting to learn the difference between the marks of Nikitin and Nikolajev.

Just an extra question in this topic:
Here is the extract from P-L about Nikolaev...


I do not speak Russian, but I can read the cyrillic letters (the language is the next step!)
With the help of a very good online translator I have worked it out to be this:

"Dmitry Nikolaev was the owner of the factory making silver products in Moscow in the 2nd floor. In the nineteenth century. In 1897 he had a factory with 8 employees and 10 apprentices in the amount of 10,000 rubles making silver cigarette cases, ГИМ; лжица с ркзьбой, НГМ."

I cannot find a translation for the end part - and I just want to check that this translation is right. Is there any way that the translation to English could be clearer?
