Your candlesticks are typical Jewish sabbath candlesticks, mostly manufactured and sold in Poland. Even today :-(
The marks: Kokoshnik in use 1899-1908, assaymaster AB (not clear, just an asumption) Aleksandr Kazimirowitsch Vyrschkovski/ Warzaw
The maker´s mark:



Translated to Latin letters: MSCHKARLAU (МШКАРЛАЧЪ)

In Warzaw existed a silversmith MOSZEK CHARLAP 1897-1915, his marks in Cyrillic: М.ШАРЛАП or MX

The marks are wrong (Kokoshnik "double stamp"), the name is wrong, the quality is wrong
Conclusion: contemporary lookalike production = fake

Hello, Postnikov,
i have one question to You. You wrote, this are typical Jewish sabbath candlesticks. This is very interesting information to me. Do You mean, also my piece is? I thing, it has very similar design, also Warszawian, something older (~1840). Or are there some markants, typical for Jewish sabbath candlesticks, thats are in my piece missing? Sorry for my primitive question, but i am not familiar with Jewish culture.

May I tell to correct?

I see the maker´s mark as “ Б. Шкарлатъ” (B. Szkarlat). “He was probably related to and the successor of Szmul Szkarlat, a noted Warsaw silversmith and maker of Judaica working in the second half of the 19th century.” (from Silvercollection, see May 2009 Newsletter). Assaymaster AP (Aleksandr Vasilievich Romanov).
But I don’t like this "double stamp", too.

Thank you for your replies and sorry about the pictures - I don't know how to embed them. I'm confused about postnikov's reply and think Dad my be right. It makes sense that they are Sabbath candlesticks. They were given to my mother by my aunt who, even though she was not religious, her parents probably were. As to them being contemporary reproductions, my aunt is in her nineties and these belonged to her mother. My mom remembered them always being in the family home since the 1950's. It's hard to see in the picture but the first letter does look like Dad describes. What do you mean by the double stamp though?

I only have to guess what marks are on your object! The photos are not the best - please try again - the candlesticks are in your posession since the 1950´s, no?
Take a loupe and look at the Kokoshnik mark - it is double/over stamped - only seen on fakes - sorry. I always hear the storys: "...since 100 years in our family..." and you do not know that they are sabbath candle sticks?

The assayer I also can not read clear, it is either АР (A. Romanov 1899 -April 1904) or AB (A. Wyrzykov April 1904-1908)
If it is B. Szkarlat, I miss his trade mark the "fish"

Sorry if I confused you with my explaination of the candlesticks' origin. They did not belong to me in the 1950's. They belonged to my mother's inlaws from her first marriage which is why I wouldn't know what they used them for. My mother had always admired them so when her former mother in law died in the 1970's they were given to my mother as a gift.

Double stamped kokoshik mark doesn't necessarily proof it's a fake. These candlesticks are 100% original, the signatures too.
