I have a question about the maker's mark on this Torah Pointer. I found what I think is the maker "Cyprian Labecki" however the dates given show 1881-1889. The date on this item's assay mark is 1878. So is Labecki the maker?

Do you know that just by the discrepancy in the dates?

Could it be another maker other than Labecki?

The silversmith, of course, is different, because in my opinion it is a fake)))

Hi,
Remember the rule of thumb (golden rule):every Judaica with ``Russian`` marks is a modern fake, made the day before yesterday in India,China,Russia or Eastern Europe.
Unless proven otherwise: e.g. a 95 years old rabbi who used the pointer to study a 400 years old Talmud in his ancient library.
Fortunately, genuine items are too precious and they do not emerge on eBay and garage sales. And we are aware of that, although fakers try and try.

Ridiculous modern FAKE. Haven't seen genuine judaica on sale for years. Reread what AG2012 wrote, note it and and also note that Osip Sosnkowsky punched O.S in Warsaw 1862-69.
