Museum of Medicine and Health
The University of Manchester
Oxford Road
Manchester M13 9PL

The museum's aim is to collect, conserve and store anything relevant to the practice of medicine, nursing and pharmacy. It is a medical collection in the widest sense and it is intended as a teaching resource to support and illustrate our understanding of the history of medicine, health and disease.

The collection consists of medical and nursing equipment, instruments, apparatus and some archival material, but does not include any anatomical or pathological specimens, which are housed in separate departments.

The museum came in to being when the Medical School moved from its old building on Coupland Street to its present home in 1973. During the course of the relocation, hundreds of items of historical interest were identified, catalogue and over the years many have been on display.

A collection of silver associated with Joseph Jordan (1787-1873), who founded the Manchester School of Anatomy in 1814, the John Hull Grundy (1907-1984) collection of silver instruments and medical medals are on display.

Opening times: Daily: 10am-5pm - Closed: 24th-26th December and 1st January

Admission: Free
