Anthony Bernbaum is a specialist dealer in the area of arts and crafts silver. He established his gallery, the Peartree Collection five years ago, after nearly thirty years in financial services, during which time he was an enthusiastic collector of Arts and Crafts silver.

The lecture will focus on the artistic silver of the period 1890-1914. This period of the later Arts and Crafts movement saw a blossoming of silver work, with a rejection of industrial production and a renewed focus on design, craftsmanship, education and workshop organisation.

Anthony will illustrate the differences between Arts and Crafts and Art Nouveau silver, as well as the different styles of the key workshops and designers including Charles Ashbee’s Guild of Handicraft, Archibald Knox, Ramsden and Carr, Kate Harris and Gilbert Marks. It will also show how this movement influenced post 1945 silver in Britain with its own renaissance in the designer silversmith.
