Ces bijoux en métaux précieux – or, argent et argent doré – produits et diffusés en milieux citadins ou ruraux couvrent une période allant de la seconde moitié du XIXe siècle à la première moitié du XXe siècle. Bijoux de fête comme du quotidien, ils dévoilent l’inventivité et le savoir-faire des artisans ou des particuliers qui les ont façonnés.
Les parures féminines du Maroc, d’Algérie, et de Tunisie se distinguent par un riche corpus : ornements de tête, temporaux, boucles d’oreille, colliers, fibules, bracelets et anneaux de chevilles qui revêtent une fonction utilitaire, ornementale mais aussi protectrice. La variété de leurs formes, de leurs décors et de leurs techniques témoigne de la diversité des peuples et de l’identité des régions qui constituent le monde arabe d’aujourd’hui.
