A talk formulated in the wider context of the 1200 years of history of Chinese silver making, combining relevant anthropological and cultural elements as well as the role the Opium Wars played in expanding the production of Chinese Export Silver. Doing so highlights the context behind what was is in reality the jewel in the crown of a long tradition of master silver making that drew in and absorbed outside influences to create what we recognise today as the “Chinese style”.
