London EC2V 6BN

Fakes and Forgeries Seminar

Monday 26th November 2012 - 9.30am-3.45pm

The possibility of overlooking a fake or forged piece of silverware or jewellery continues to daunt experts, curators and collectors. Often the skill to identify counterfeit or transposed hallmarks seems beyond reach. This seminar aims to answer questions such as what physical characteristics are indications of an altered piece of plate and what clues are there that an article is an illegal cast duplicate of an authentic original. This is carried out by combining educational lectures with first-hand contact with examples of authentic and counterfeit objects.

Cost: £85 per person plus VAT

How to book, and further information: Contact Lyn Mills (lyn.mills@assayofficelondon.co.uk or 020 7606 8971)

Guest speakers for the above event include Susan Rumfitt (independent jewellery specialist who spent the early part of her career working for Christie’s auctioneers then moved to Phillip’s where she ran one of their jewellery departments) and Alistair Dickenson (famed for his role in BBC's Antiques Roadshow, Alistair began his career at an auction house and went on to become Director of the Antiques Department at Asprey).
