Assay Office Tours

January — September (contact GH for specific dates)

Have you ever wanted to know how an Assay Office works? Hallmarking expert, Dave Merry, draws upon his 41 years experience to provide guided tours of the ‘working departments’ including a detailed look at how packets are processed through to the various methods of testing precious metals, such as touch testing and XRF analysis. You will be shown the huge array of tools used for hand marking and watch the highly skilled staff in action testing and hallmarking all sorts of precious metal items. The tour covers all aspects of the industry from the verification of antiques and seized counterfeits to a demonstration of how laser marking is carried out and, for the full tour, a visit to a independent laboratory to watch scrap gold being processed. At the end there will be a Q&A session.

Cost: £16.50 per person plus VAT

How to book, and further information: Contact Dave Merry (dave.merry@assayofficelondon.co.uk or 020 7606 8971)
