Hallmarking Workshop for Consumers

Monday June 7, 2010
Morning session at 10.15am and afternoon session at 1.30pm

The workshop will highlight the importance of hallmarking, covering topics such as the law that surrounds this age old form of consumer protection and what marks actually mean and how they are applied. The talk will be followed by a series of practical sessions including testing a personal item of jewellery for its precious metal content.

The workshop has been tailored specifically to educate the general public about the importance of hallmarking. Steve Collins, Sales and Business Development Manager will launch the workshop with an informative talk covering the law that surrounds this age old form of consumer protection, what the marks actually mean and how they are applied. A series of practical sessions will follow including the opportunity to test a personal item of jewellery for its precious metal content with the most modern assaying device — an X-ray-fluorescence spectrometer. There will also be the opportunity to meet Assay Office London’s Senior Valuer, Steven L Jordan FGA DGA FNAG FIRV, voted National Association of Goldsmiths Valuer of the Year 2009.
