Proyecto Denísova. Pasado y Presente a Través de las Joyas

Denísova Project. Past and present Through Jewelry

Until 9th October 2022

The exhibition project Denisova. Past and present through jewels , aims to tell the story through jewels taking into account the different cultures and civilizations throughout the millennia, uniting the ancient creators with the current ones. For this, a selection of 59 artists have chosen a historical jewel and have interpreted it by creating the most particular versions. The exhibition will take place on Floor 4 of the National Museum of Decorative Arts until October 9.

In 2010 it was announced that another human group other than Neanderthals and Homo Sapiens, the so-called Denisovans, had been discovered in a cave located in Denisova, Siberia. In this deposit, a tiara and a Mammoth ring were found together with a carved stone bracelet with a central hole from which another ring falls, dated at 50,000 – 40,000 years old.

The human being from the beginning of time had as basic missions to feed, survive and develop symbolism through art. This symbolic concept was shared by the three human species, creating ornamental objects when life was in constant danger and long before the development of the rest of the arts. The discovery of the Denisovan jewels prompted the realization of this project with the idea of knowing who, when and where each piece was created, uniting the past with the present.

Curated by Raquel Lobelos, this project wants to restore the brilliance and fascination that jewelery and body decoration have had for human beings since the beginning of time. After the success of the first edition, art and design lovers will soon be able to enjoy a second with new participants and designs.
