The Return of the Chester Town Mark
The Sheffield Assay Office states:
"During one of our conversations this year, whilst discussing the history of hallmarking, one of our new customers was keen to look at using the old Chester Mark. They are based in Chester and a few other retailers and manufacturers were also keen. We are therefore delighted to say that we have just had the trademark confirmed and re-registered. This means that any company who would like to use the mark in addition to their hallmark are able to do so and can contact us for more information".

The Return of the Chester Town Mark
Re: The Return of the Chester Town Mark
The Chester Mark - Re-registered at Sheffield Assay Office
The Sheffield Assay Office states:
Last year, we announced that award winning designer Lucy Quartermaine had chosen to work with us here at Sheffield Assay Office.
We were also delighted to re-introduce the Chester Town Mark which had become dormant since Chester Assay Office closed it’s doors in 1962. Lucy has been using this mark as her company is based in Chester.
Following this announcement, we had a number of companies who expressed an interest in using the mark and we therefore felt it prudent to register it as a trademark to protect it’s use. In this way it is possible to monitor and control it’s usage and ensure it is only struck on products where appropriate. The mark is used as an additional mark and not to be confused with the mandatory UK hallmarks.
This has now been confirmed by the Trade Marks Registry. If any company with a Chester connection is interested in using the mark then please don't hesitate to contact us.
