When the Hess & Culbertson Jewelry Co. store closed a few nights ago a $435 diamond ring was inadvertently left on the finger of a “dummy” in one of the show windows, it sparkled so brightly in the electric light that it feared a smasher might get it, and the District Telegraph Co., which protects the store against burglars, was notified. The company called up the police department and four detectives were sent to the store. The telegraph company officials called up officials of the store, who ordered the inside watchman to remove place it to a place of greater safety.
