Established at Porto in 1874 by Manuel José Ferreira Marques, the business was then styled Ferreira Marques & Irmão. José Manuel Ferreira Marques died in 1930 and the business passed to his sons, Gabriel and Silvestre Ferreira Marques. In 1934 the brothers created the Topázio brand.
