I mentioned some time ago a most effective smoke-consuming apparatus I had seen in operation at Messrs. John Round and Sons, Tudor-street, Sheffield. Sir F. T. Mappin, Bart., M.P. , the head of the Sheaf Works, and chairman of the Sheffield Gas Company, writes to the Sheffield papers earnestly advising all proprietors of steam engines to visit these works, ‘‘ and see for themselves the great advantage and desirability of adopting the invention,”
