A topic for recording information regarding John Round & Son.

Established in 1847 by John Round at Sheffield and was located at Tudor Street. John Round's son, Edwin, became a partner shortly after. By 1876 a second factory was opened at the Arundel Plate Works. The business amalgamated with Ridge, Allcard & Co. in 1886. The firm also had a presence in London (8, Holborn Circus and 112, Hatton Garden and 15, Charterhouse Street and Gray's Inn Chambers, 20, High Holborn) and Montreal (8, Union Buildings, Francois Xavier Street, later, Coristine Building, St. Paul Street), and was acquired in the 1930's by Joseph Rodgers & Sons and transferred to their Pond Hill Works.

If you have any details of the above company, advertisements, examples of their work, markings, etc., anything that you are willing to share, then here's the place to post it.

One of the principal changes of the last few months in the trade has been the amalgamation of the firm of Ridge, Allcard & Co., of Lion Works, Eyre Lane, with that of John Round & Son (Limited), Tudor Works. Messrs. Round & Son have achieved an enviable notoriety by the quality of their goods, and their registered trade mark "J.R. & S." and a globe, with the inscription in the margin "All the Round" are well-known throughout the trade. Mr. Joseph Ridge will take the management of the amalgamated business, and his practical experience, extending over several years, will doubtless increase rather than diminish the fame both firms have obtained in separate trading.

Messrs. John Round & Son, of Tudor Works, Sheffield, have, for the convenience of their friends, published a small pocket edition of their spoon and fork catalogue, and state that they will be pleased, upon application, to supply the. trade with a number free of charge for circulation among customers.
