Trocken-Apparat für Bestecke. (Mit Abbildung, Fig. 153.)
Die Abbildung, Fig. 153 veranschaulicht einen sinnreichen und zugleich sehr einfach gedachten Apparat, welcher das Abtrocknen des Essgeschirrs überflüssig machen soll und dadurch eine nicht unerhebliche Zeitersparniss für die Küchenarbeiten ermöglicht. Derselbe besteht aus einem entsprechend geräumigen emaillirten Gefiiss aus Eisenblech mit doppeltem, in seiner oberen Fläche siebartig durchlöchertem Boden und ebenso durchlöchertem, mittels Scharniers angefügtem gewölbten Deckel. Im Inneren des Gefässes sind, wie der in der Zeichnung zum besseren Verständniss markirte Aus- schnitt erkennen lässt, quer über den Boden mehrere aus Stäben zu- sammengesetzte leichte Gestelle be- festigt, zwischen denen die Teller und Schüsseln, sobald sie abge- waschen worden sind, auf- und übereinander gestellt werden, bis das Gefäss gefüllt ist oder sämmt- liches Geschirr darin Aufnahme ge- funden hat. Alsdann übergiesst man letzteres nochmals mit heissem Wasser, welches durch den durch- löcherten Boden in den unteren Hohlraum abfliesst und schliesst den Deckel. Dieser gewährt nur gerade den Dämpfen Abzug und hält die Wärme in dem Gefiiss zusammen, wodurch ein sehr schnelles und gleichmässiges Trocknen des Geschirrs bewirkt wird, das, von keinem Tuche berührt, einen ganz besonders schönen Glanz erhält. Zum Abgiessen des Wassers aus dem unteren Hohlraum ist dicht über dem Boden, ähnlich wie bei einer Theekanne, ein schräg aufsteigendes Rohr angebracht. Dasselbe dient zugleich, wie die Abbildung erkennen lässt, einer zur Aufnahme von Messern, Gabeln und Löffeln bestimmten Nebenabtheilung als Stützpunkt. Einige praktisch angebrachte Griffe gestatten eine bequeme Handhabung des Gefässes. Die Erfindung ist amerikanischen Ursprungs.

Drying apparatus for cutlery. (With illustration, Fig. 153.)
The illustration, Fig. 153, illustrates an ingenious and at the same time very simply conceived apparatus, which is intended to make drying of the dishes superfluous and thus enables a not inconsiderable saving of time for kitchen work. It consists of a suitably spacious, enamelled sheet-iron vessel with a double bottom perforated in a sieve-like manner on the upper surface and a vaulted lid, also perforated, attached by means of a hinge. Inside the vessel, as can be seen from the section marked in the drawing for better understanding, several light racks made up of sticks are fastened across the bottom, between which the plates and bowls are placed as soon as they have been washed are placed on top of each other until the container is full or all the crockery has been placed in it. Then the latter is poured over again with hot water, which flows through the perforated base into the lower cavity, and the lid is closed. This only allows the fumes to escape and keeps the heat in the vessel, resulting in a very quick and even drying of the dishes is effected, which, of any cloth touched, acquires a particularly beautiful shine. To drain the water from the lower cavity, a sloping pipe is attached close to the floor, similar to a teapot. At the same time, as the illustration shows, it also serves as a support point for a side compartment designed to hold knives, forks and spoons. A number of conveniently placed handles allow easy handling of the vessel. The invention is of American origin.
