Noted by Rainwater as silverware manufacturer listed in New Orleans directory 1871. Also turning up in book Dixie Clockmakers for 1850's-60's. Photo of storefront at 93 & 94 (??) showing on Pin-interest reads Jewelry Manufactory near roof and Silverware Manufactory near third floor...Zimmerman's on structure. If you have additional information, feel free..

The known maker mark is C. H. ZIMMERMANN. The photo is also Zimmermann's, not with one "N" as usually listed.

From: History of the Fire Department of New Orleans: From the Earliest Days to the Present Time by Thomas O'Connor (of New Orleans) 1895..page 396..."The firemen's feature of the Agricultural Fair of 1868, held on January 19th, was a contest for a special premium offered by Mr. Charles H. Zimmerman, consisting of a large mantel clock, representing Neptune kneeling on a sea-dragon issuing orders to his subjects."

A Zimmerman Mule Drawn Streetcar sold 2015 can still be viewed online (search name) at the auction site (sorry, no linking). But 43K+ makes it worth seeing!

Announncement in The Times-Picayune, 21 September 1869, page 4, to wit: COPARTNERSHIP....Messrs. Edmund Lachenmeyer & Geo. S. Gomperts, (for several years in my house), have become my partners. [The rest is basically no changes.]

C.H. Zimmermann was involved in requesting aid for those unfortunates who suffered from the Mississippi flood of 1874 which affected New Orleans and tributary areas. Maybe relates to his address change?

1861 directory seems to place C.H. Zimmermann as Bookkeeper at 26 Magazine? More clear is J.F. Zimmermann is a watchmaker at 96 Canal (possibly the link to clocks).
