An invention to manufacture linoleum from blood, forms the subject of an action in the King’s Bench Division now being heard by Mr. Justice Sankey and a special jury. A London engineer claims arrears of salary and monies paid for alleged wrong dismissal from two well-known London firms of metallurgists, Johnson, Matthey, and Co. Ltd., and Samsonoid, Ltd. The defendants plead the Statute of Frauds and say that the dismissal of the plaintiff was justified by his failure to perform his duties and evidences of incompetence. The plaintiff was engaged by the defendants in connection with a process invented by one of the directors of the firm, by which a substitute for such materials as ebony, vulcanite or horn for manufacture into such articles as buttons, gramophone records and linoleum were to be made from blood obtained from slaughterhouses. During the trial, some buttons and an electrical fitting which had been made from blood were produced and handed to the Judge and the jury for inspection.
