NO BAIL FOR GIBBONS
The Alleged "Palmer" of Jewelry Held for Examination
John Gibbons, who was arrested yesterday afternoon on Maiden lane, after having robbed several Jewelry houses by palming and pocketing the goods shown him by salesmen, was arraigned today at the Tombs' Police Court.
He looked anything but the thief he Is charged with being. Present In court were H. A. Bliss, manager of the Gorham Manufacturing Company, at 23 Maiden lane, and representatives of E. G. Webster & Co. and other silverware and Jewelry houses, who claim to have been victimized by the prisoner.
Gibbons was arrested at the instigation of Mr. Bliss, who charged him with stealing goods to the value of $20.
He pleaded not guilty, and demanded an examination be given be given until Tuesday to prepare his defense. Bail was fixed at $1,000, and having no bondsmen he was committed to the Tombs.
