Fred. H. Carpenter, the well-known chain salesman, who has represented the R. F. Simmons & Co. line in the Western territory for the last six years, was met in Chicago recently, and when asked by The Keystone representative as to the truth of the rumor that he had resigned his position with the above firm and was about to form a new combination to enter the field as chainmakers, he made no secret of the matter, and said it was a fact that he had sent in his resignation and that it had been accepted; that the new firm will be made up of the following gentlemen: J. G. Fuller, of J. G. Fuller & Co.; Providence; Fred. H. Carpenter, Western salesman for R. F. Simmons & Co.; E. E. Richardson and F. E. Bodman, of the same house. The style of the new firm will be Fuller, Carpenter & Co., the co-partnership beginning with the opening of the new year. The new firm will succeed to the business of J. G. Fuller & Co.

Harold E. Sweet's views regarding the depression of 1920-21:

While our own situation is somewhat unusual in that we are still enabled to operate our plant on full time with a force larger even than we had last year, we are not disposed to be other than sanely hopeful with regard to future business.

Unquestionably, some of the predictions relative to trade revival are altogether too optimistic, and it appears to be the belief in reliable and responsible quarters that the return to normal business activity must be slow and orderly. We feel that prosperity is coming back and that a marked industrial revival may be looked for by the Fall of the year. In preparation for this we advise our customers to buy, but buy carefully, as they are telling them across the line in Canada.

H. E. SWEET, R. F. Simmons Co.

The members of the R. F. Simmons Co., Attleboro, Mass., chain manufacturers, which was started in 1873, are celebrating this year, the 50th anniversary of the business and to the friends and patrons of the company in commemoration of the event, has been sent an attractive little leather covered memorandum book which extends the concern’s greetings with heartiest thanks and appreciation of the many friendly courtesies that have made possible its prosperity and growth. The book beside containing a page for the identification of the owner, is a small cyclopedia of general information on various topics and also contains a calendar for the year 1923.
