James Irving Metcalf died, Feb. 1. He was born in Woonsocket, R. I., Sept. 1, 1854, and was thus in his 48th year at the time of his death. At the age of 16 years he entered the office of R. Blackinton & Co., North Attleboro, and remained in uninterrupted employment by them until about 18 months ago, when, by reason of illness, he was obliged to give up his work. For 15 years he represented the firm in their western and California territory and was widely known and highly respected in the jewelry trade and by traveling men. In 1884, he married Mrs. Ella T. Sargent, who survives him. He also leaves his mother, Mrs. Emily Packard; a sister; Mrs Charles H. Clark, both of North Attleboro; and a brother, William F. Packard, of Providence.
