The Racine Silver Plate Company, manufacturers of gold and silver plated ware, Britannia ware, cutlery, etc., was incorporated May 8, 1875, with an original capital of $20,000, which was afterward increased to $44,000, with authority to extend the same to $100,000. The first officers were: James H. Kelley, President; B. F. Weeks, Secretary and Treasurer; Directors, James H. Kelley, B. F. Weeks, Thomas Dickinson, E. G. Huggins, John Elkins. The present officers are: J. H. Kelley, President; B. F. Weeks, Treasurer; George B. Kelley, Secretary. The capital of the Company is now $100,000. The establishment employs sixty men and does a business of about $100,000 per annum. Their goods are now classed with those of Rogers & Co., and other well known Eastern manufacturers, and are sold in Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky, Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska, Iowa, Wisconsin, Minnesota and Michigan.

The L. A. Littlefield Silver Co., of New Bedford, Mass., who manufacture silver plated hollow-ware, and employ about twenty-five hands, have consolidated with the Rockford Silver Plate Co., of Rockford, Ill., and will move there. L. A. Littlefield will become general superintendent of the consolidated companies.

The Rockford Silver Plate Co. Obtain a Judgment Against Leo Hollander

Salt Lake City, Utah, July 25.—The Rockford Silver Plate Co., Rockford, Ill., some days ago submitted in the Third District Court, on an agreed statement of facts, a claim against Leo Hollander and others for certain goods valued at $2,666.90, which the plaintiffs allege were consigned to the defendants for sale on commission.

The court has found that the plaintiffs are entitled to the goods, and judgment has been entered accordingly.

In 1888, the Rockford Silver Plate Co. issued a circular to the retail jewelry trade that should have set every dealer to thinking. No doubt a great many grasped the situation so practically depicted in the circular and profited by it. Those who have not, should watch their present holiday sales and see if sound advice was not offered in that circular. The Rockford Silver Plate Co. certainly could have had but one interest in the matter, and that one the welfare of the retail jeweler, as they sell nobody else.

Death of Levi Rhoades, of Rockford

Rockford, Ill ., Nov. 20.—Levi Rhoades, one of the most prominent citizens of this city, died at his home yesterday afternoon of heart disease. The deceased was sixty-one years of age. Mr. Rhoades was the first president of the Rockford Watch Co., and a director in that concern, and the Rockford Silver Plate Co. He was at one time mayor of Rockford. He leaves a fortune estimated at $250,000.

The Rockford Silver Plate Company, Rockford, Ill ., which have been for some time in search of a first-class plater, have at last secured a man from Philadelphia, who will assume charge in September. Orders from the trade are coming in so much in excess of previous years that the capacity of this department is taxed to its full extent. The company are now putting in an additional motor, so as to run silver solutions continually, without any break at the noon hour. This will increase the output one-third.

The Rockford Silver Plate Co. during the vacation, shipped their steel rollers to be reground and as they have not been finished, the directors, in view of this and the present outlook for trade, decided to defer fixing a date for resuming work until their next regular meeting.

Annual Convention of the National Retail Jewelers’ Association - Philadelphia

George B. Kelley, secretary of the Rockford Silver Plate Company, of Rockford, Ill., said the trouble with retail jewelers is that they are too courteous, and take too much trouble to point out to prospective customers the various works and numbers, showing the quality of goods. With information thus gained, the visitors to retail stores to dry goods and other establishments and find these imitation goods that appear to be like those previously seen. The speaker did not know how it was in Philadelphia, but in the West there are no strictly first class jobbers who engage in the retail business.

The Rockford Silver Plate Co., Rockford, Ill., is just now passing through a period of exceptional business activity that promises the largest trade that this corporation has experienced since its initiation. There seems to be growing a feeling among Western business men that institutions particularly adapted, or, as it were, natural to the locality should have precedence and a claim upon the citizens over an outsider. No doubt to this feeling can be ascribed the wonderful business the Rockford Silver Plate Co. is doing. Under the able guidance and executive ability of the old veteran general manager, Geo. Kelley, this concern is occupying a high plane in the silver plate industry. The citizens of Rockford, one of the most thriving and pushing of Illinois manufacturing cities, are justly proud of their silver plate plant.
