DEWEY MEDAL


Presented to Admiral Dewey by the City of New York, on the occasion of his arrival, 29 September, 1899. Designed and made by Black, Starr & Frost; photographed by W. Howard Harris, of the Camera Club. The gun, shield, and medal are all of gold. The ornament on gun, green enamel; the lettering on shield, blue enamel on a rose-gold ground with jewels of diamonds, sapphires and rubies, which also surround the medal proper, one in each link.

The ground of the medal, including the portrait, is bright light yellow gold, as well as the garland, lettering and milled edge. The surrounding anchor chain is rose gold. The supporting ribbon red, white and blue silk. The D is diamonds set in platinum.

Clarence C. Chaffee has been transferred from the Chicago to the New York office of the Gorham Company. His address is in care of Black, Starr & Frost-Gorham, 594 Fifth Avenue.

Black, Starr & Frost, retail jewelers, at 436 Fifth Ave., announce that their store will be closed all day Saturdays during the months of July and August, and Saturday, Sept. 3. On other days of the week from June 13 to Sept. 19 the store will be closed at 5 p. m.

Alfred Morrell, of Black, Starr & Frost, 594 Fifth Ave., has been appointed commissioner for the city of New York for the Sesqui-Centennial Exhibition to be held in Philadelphia next year. The appointment came from D. C. Collins, director general of the exhibition. Mr. Morrell’s activities are not confined to the jewelry trade but all industries in the metropolis which will exhibit.

Alfred Morell, for many years with Black, Starr & Frost and Dreicer & Co., is now associated as executive vice-president with T. Kirkpatrick & Co., Park Ave., at 57th St. Mr. Morell is the retailers' representative on the Good and Welfare Committee of the National Jewelers Board of Trade and is active in the Retail Jewelers Association of Greater New York .
