Death of Joseph Bachman

Joseph Bachman, who will be remembered by the older men in the trade as one of its former most prominent and respected merchants, died at his home, 54 W. 77th St., last Sunday. He was 91 years old. Many years ago he was in business for himself on Grand St., and later at 3 Maiden Lane, under the style of Joseph Bachman & Co. Later, until about four years ago, he was connected with the Gorham Co. The funeral services were held at Temple Emanu-El yesterday, of which congregation the deceased was a member. Surviving are four daughters and two sons. Mr. Bachman leaves many friends in the jewelry trade who deeply regret his demise.

A silver bowl and server with cups, which is intended for the 11th International Turnfest, to be held at Frankfort-on-the-Main July 18-23, has been on exhibition at the Fifth -Ave. store of the Gorham Co. during the past week. The articles are presented by William Randolph Hearst.

Last week Judge Hogan, in the Jefferson Market Police Court, held for trial Frank Collier, an employee of the Gorham Manufacturing Company, on a charge of stealing from the company silver worth $20. The goods were recovered from the pawnbroker with whom they had been pledged.

Raymond Hayden Shepard, a former resident of Mansfield and now a member of the traveling staff of the Gorham Co., Providence, was married yesterday (July 27) to Miss Lena Florence Winslow, of Portland, Me. The wedding took place at the home of the bride.

The Chicago office of the Gorham Mfg. Co. is undergoing considerable alteration and rearrangements. About 300 square feet of additional show-room space will he added to the present spacious display room and new fixtures and show-cases added. When completed the rooms will add very materially to the generally fine appearance of this company’s lines.
