T.A. STEVENS
Frodsham Street, Chester
Recently, in the small hours of the morning, a French Canadian broke the window of Mr. T. A. Stevens, Frodsham-street, Chester, and stole therefrom fourteen metal watches and four alberts, valued at £5. The sound of the crash, however, was heard by a policeman, who immediately pursued the thief, and caught him in possession of the abstracted property. He was committed for trial.

BAXTER
Abbey Street, Accrington
Burglaries.—The past month has been signalised by a series of some of the most daring burglaries that have been recorded for some time. Two of the most serious as regards the actual losses have been those at Accrington and Stourbridge. In the first, the victim were Messrs. Baxter, jewellers, of Abbey Street, in which property valued at £400 was stolen. In this case it is satisfactory to note that the thief was caught and has been sentenced to a term of ten years' imprisonment, which will prevent his operations in a similar direction for some time. The property was recovered.
In the second case, the premises of Miss Stringer, jeweller, of Stourbridge, were completely looted ; property valued at £800 being made off with, with very little chance of its recovery. Defective police arrangements are very much blamed for the impunity of the thieves in this instance.
