The striking silverworkers of Toronto recently voted for an indefinite continuance of the strike having received assurances for active and financial support from the International. Union Samuel E. Beardsley, general secretary-treasurer of the union, was present at the meeting and told the men of the decision of the union to actively support the strike. He further stated that President Green of the American Federation of Labor had authorized an appeal for funds to all locals of the unions through out North America.

The Jewelry Workers' Protective Union of Toronto has been requested by manufacturing jewelers to cooperate with them in an endeavor to secure better protection for the industry against foreign competition. The Union will enter a protest with the Federal Government against the importation of quantities of jewelry from France, Germany and other European countries, where labor is cheaper than on the American continent. This competition is seriously affecting the working conditions of Canadian jewelers. The Canadian Custom's tariff is at present under going revision by the Advisory Tariff Board in preparation for presentation to the next session of Parliament, and the matter will probably be dealt with by them in due course.

Three Men Accused of Robbing Canadian Jewelry Store Window

NAPANEE, ONT. , Can. , Dec. 7.-The jewelry store of J. D. Mayhew was broken into about 3 a. m. last Thursday by thieves who secured quantity of jewelry when their activities were interrupted by the vigilance of the police. Constable Albert Cook, who was on duty in the neighborhood, had seen a car drive up to the store from which three men emerged. One of the trio hurled a tire jack through the front window. The three marauders were removing articles of value from the window when the constable got into action. The burglars dashed for their car, but a bullet from the policeman's revolver blew out a tire. The car, however, was still able to proceed. The constable summoned assistance and a thorough search was begun. The car was found abandoned, but tracks in the snow were followed and three men arrested, one of whom has a criminal record . The car is believed to have been stolen from Toronto. The jewelry taken by the bandits was recovered.

The fire, which occurred recently, started in a garage on Main St. and completely destroyed that building and several others, and did considerable damage to a number of other establishments.
