Andrew & Co. - Winnipeg - 1901
On the occasion of the visit of Lord Strathcona, Canadian High Commissioner in England to Winnipeg, a civic address of welcome was presented to him, Aug. 25. It was inclosed in a silver casket manufactured by Andrew & Co., Main St., Winnipeg, of sterling silver, 10 inches long by seven inches wide and nine inches high, weighing 100 ounces. It is surmounted by the figure of a buffalo. On the front is embossed the arms of the city of Winnipeg, and the reverse side bears an appropriate inscription. The right end shows the coat-of-arms of Lord Strathcona embossed in relief, and on the opposite end is a reproduction of old Fort Garry.

The first burglary that has happened at the celebrated mining camp of Rossland took place on the evening of Feb. 24. when the jewelry store of Challoner, Mitchell & Spring was entered, the employes being at supper, and $8,000 worth of watches and diamonds stolen.

Early Thursday morning. Feb. 18, the jewelry store occupied by Henry Whittall, 409 Wellington St., Montreal, was visited by burglars who effected an entrance through a rear window. It is not considered to be the work of professional thieves, as the only booty secured consisted of souvenir spoons, knives and forks, while lying quite close to these were a number of very valuable articles.
