David Gray started his career in Edinburgh, serving his apprenticeship under James Douglas, and possibly as a journeyman with Joseph Pearson of Dumfries, before starting on his own account at Dumfries in 1814.
David Gray was twice married, firstly to Elizabeth Murray, and secondly to Elizabeth Rome. He died on the 2nd January 1841, aged 63 years.
David Gray registered his mark with the Edinburgh Assay Office.
