CHICAGO

The Circular has few more enthusiastic friends in the west than Mr. G. J. Corey, manager of the Pairpoint Silverplate Company. Mr. Corey, before assuming charge of the western business, used to travel south for the company, and to use his own words, he “found The Jewelers’ Circular everywhere there, just as I do in my western trips now.-” Continuing, he said, “ this has been the biggest year we have ever had, and if there have been any city failures we don’t know it, for we haven’t lost a dollar in Chicago.”

The fancy pieces of richly colored glass, handsomely mounted in plate, which the Pairpoint Mfg. Co. are now making a specialty of, are proving one of the most attractive and salable lines, in the market, particularly the lamps, cracker dishes and nut bowls. The increase in their business will necessitate large additions to their plant which they contemplate making in the spring.

CHICAGO

C. J. Corey, the popular western manager of the Pairpoint Manufacturing Company, has had a force of men at work decorating his store, which, in consequence, is now one of the most attractive in the trade. Mr. Corey is much pleased with the success that has since his establishment here as western manager crowned his efforts, and his views of the future are roseate hued.

The Pairpoint Manufacturing Co., of New Bedford, Mass., were so crowded for room, last season, that they are now building an addition to their factory, about seventy feet in length and four stories in height. The hollow-handled, seamless knives, made under their patent, are becoming very popular with the trade, and the company is abundantly satisfied with the outlook for the year.

G. J. Corey, manager of the Chicago branch of the Pairpoint Mfg. Co., has issued a very pretty nine-page pamphlet recounting the firm’s progress in previous years and giving several interesting facts about silverware in general. Each page is printed in different tinted ink and the book concludes with a few words on the firm’s western travelers.

The Pairpont M’f’g Co., New Bedford, Mass., have just issued their new illustrated catalogue for 1890, a handsome book of 212 pages, enclosed in an attractive cover of linen-backed leatherette. The leaves of the book are of fine super-calendared paper, the printing being handsomely done in photographic ink, which brings out the beauties of the numerous articles to advantage. Though over 1,000 designs are illustrated, the company’s full line is not represented, a selection having been made of such patterns as have proved most desirable to the trade in the past, together with what new ones were ready at the time of going to press. A complete specified list of the 117 various lines of goods depicted would bewilder the reader; suffice it to say that numerous specimens of every variety of hollow and flat wares and several lines of small wares, such as match boxes, bonbon boxes, etc., are given. In the flat ware we would call especial attention to the beautiful new “Garland” pattern for hollow handles which is used in fancy pieces only; also, to the hand engraved “miseltoe,” “myrtle,” “ivy,” and other pretty patterns. Several lines are put up in handsome satin-lined silk plush cases which are made at the company’s factory. Numbers, descriptions and prices are given under each piece, besides the complete price lists for the flat ware and separate plush cases. The company are constantly increasing their facilities and rapidly adding to an already extensive stock such goods as will suit the present advanced taste of their patrons. Samples of this and attractive salable stock can be seen at their showrooms, 20 Maiden Lane, New York, 90 Wabash avenue, Chicago, and 220 Sutter street, San Francisco.

The Pairpoint Mfg. Co 's Western Branch an Aladdin Palace

Chicago, Ill., Feb. 25.—A verirable Aladdin palace will be the new store of the Pairpoint Mfg. Co., at 224 Wabash Ave. The large area of the store, 30X 176 ft., gave manager G. J. Corey ample opportunity for elaborate embellishment. The floors are of fine mosaic and the walls and ceiling ornamented with small designs in delicate gray and silver tints. Running back from near the entrance on either side are deep wall cases to a distance of 65 feet, then a 12-foot cabinet, a 6-foot mirror and another 12-foot cabinet. The cases are of red birch, mahogany finish. The cabinets contain a display of the products of the Mt. Washington Glass Co., and this display is an attractive feature. In front of the cabinets are cut glass tables with beveled mirror tops, and in front of the mirror dividing the cabinets is a divan 15 feet in circumference with 9-light electric fixtures above.

The rear of the main floor is devoted to a reception room, for buyers and the private and general office of the western department. Manager Corey’s office is furnished with the latest appliances to expedite work and is so arranged that he is in instant communnication with all departments. The store is lighted with four 8-light cut glass chandeliers, from the Mt. Washington Glass Co., and by one hundred brackets in front of wall cases and cabinets. The stock room is 30 X 176 ft. in size and is a vast maze of shelving and stands. The front will be devoted to a buffing-room and to flat ware. The room is the largest devoted to this purpose in the west and is completely furnished with everything necessary for the proper keeping of both flat and hollow ware. New patterns in elaborate designs in silverware will be found throughout the house.

The silver and gold plated ware, exhibited at the Jamaica exposition, by the Pairpoint Manufacturing Company, of New Bedford, astonishes sightseers, and the expressions of admiration that fall from the lips of some of the dusky maids and matrons are exceedingly amusing.

The Pairpoint M’f’g Co., New Bedford, Mass., illustrate in this issue a new pattern of their hollow-handled knives, called the “Garland,” and matching other fancy pieces of this pattern in flat ware. These goods are now in great demand, the factory being pushed to supply them as also the many novelties in rich decorated glassware, with tasteful and original mountings, in the production of which the Pairpoint Co., are acknowledged to excel. They have just mailed to the trade a circular showing some of their newest designs in this popular ware.

A. J. Mueck, well known in the cut glass and silverware trade, has joined the sales force of the Pairpoint Corporation and will be located at the New York showrooms of that concern. Mr. Mueck, though a young man, has had considerable experience in the cut glass trade, having been connected with C. Dorflinger & Son for nearly 12 years, both in the office and as a salesman, and since leaving that concern two years ago has been gaining valuable experience in the silverware trade, so that he is well fitted to represent a line of merchandise such as is turned out by the Pairpoint Corporation.

Changes in the Pairpoint Manufacturing Company’s Business

The Pairpoint Mfg. Co., owners of the justly celebrated Mt. Washington Glass Co., New Bedford, Mass., contemplate removing their New York business May 1, from the old stand, 40 Murray St., to Maiden Lane. The entire building at 40 Murray St., fully equipped with heat, light and power plant, also the fixtures if desired, is offered for rent. The new lines of silver plated hollow and flat ware and novelties, fine decorated china and glass of this company, and their aggregation of rich cut glass table ware, all at popular prices and styles distinctively original, are well calculated to keep this establishment in the front ranks of manufacturers of art wares. Dealers who will call will be served faithfully and conscientiously and the trade in general will be visited regularly by the company’s staff of representatives. An important feature of this establishment is the manufacture from start to finish of special lines of rich cut glass for sterling silver mounting, and manufacturers of sterling silver can avail themselves of the prestige of this company's position to supply designs suiting their requirements and made according to the patrons’ individual suggestions. Ihe Pairpoint Co. show with just pride new conceptions of original patterns distinctively their own, made under supervision of masters of the art. This company have under one organization the largest, most modern and complete establishment in America for the manufacture of rich cut glass ware and decorated glass and china goods.
