Robert M. Marples - London - 1891
This is Robert Moffat Marples. Born c.1842 - Died 1919, aged 76 years. Marples line of business was very much that of importer, especially as an agent for American firms. Besides those mentioned in the advertisement, he was also the agent for Payne & Baker, the Keystone Watch Co., the Elgin National Watch Co., and E. Ingraham Clock Co. Following a disastrous fire in 1906, his firm, now known as R.M. Marples & Son, merged with the firm of J.J. Stockall & Son in 1908 and then became known as Stockall, Marples & Co. Ltd., but the new business went under c.1910.
Robert Marples resumed trading on his own account and following his death, the firm was in the hands of his son, Stephen A. Marples.
Robert Marples entered marks at the London and Chester assay offices.
